ICOET a Great Success!
Thanks to the >580 of you from 29 countries that joined us for the 11th biennial ICOET conference held virtually in September 2021. ICOET is the foremost interdisciplinary, inter-agency supported conference addressing the broad range of ecological issues related to transportation systems in all modes. The conference is organized by the Road Ecology Center (UC Davis), in collaboration with the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies and the National Center for Sustainable Transportation at UC Davis
The 2021 conference was special in two ways: 1) it was entirely virtual and 2) without a geographic home, the 2021 conference was hosted by the ICOET Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is comprised of agency, academic, consultant, and NGO scientists, practitioners, and policy-makers from North America and around the world. The virtual setting was both necessary because of the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects a growing movement in scientific conferences going online as a measure to reduce carbon footprint associated with in-person conferencing. That being said, as we are excited by the opportunities and rising to the challenges presented by a fully virtual format, we absolutely look forward to seeing you in person in 2023, as we embark on a hybrid ICOET conference model for the future.
This conference, ICOET also hosted the first-ever "Global Congress on Linear Infrastructure and the Environment," which was held the two days preceding ICOET (September 20-21) and brought together decision-makers, scientists and technical experts from around the globe to discuss the pressing issues associated with developing more sustainable linear infrastructure systems.
